so many things I wanna say to you, but I feel you might already know what I’m going to say. From living on top of a porno store, to surviving 911 and the Black Out on a BMX bike. I rode that bike around Fort Greene Park, was high was dark as an M. Night Shyamalan movie. It was still the age of pay phones, and the line was super long during the blackout, because the cell towers were down. I stood in line to call my mom, who I was going to meet for lunch that afternoon. The line was long, folks were buying weed while waiting, once it was clear that nothing was going to move til the power was restored!
All the neighborhood restaurants cooked their food since the refrigeration was out, and gave it away, along with drinks, because…we’ll, because it’s Brooklyn! I made out with a few girls, crashed my bike into al fresco diners and nobody was mad because the power grid was down and they ain’t eeeeeen pay for their food! I’m sure it was blackout babies from that night, and blackout break ups… (but you ain’t hear it from me), and it was that magic of when gentrification hadn’t ruined everything yet!
I thank you for all that Brooklyn!
